(Payment Procedure Simplification for New Patent Registration Fees and more)


□ Starting from this July, patent-related processes such as patent transferring process will be greatly simplified due to a drastic reform on the old patent registration system, which introduced the Patent Reapplication System and a Giro Payment System formanaging patent registration fees.


□ With the introduction of the Patent Reapplication System, previously denied applicants are now allowed to reapply for patent registration by merely editing the erroneous information contained in the original application form..
This resulted in a reduction in the registration processing time by 7 days.


□ With the introduction of the Giro Payment System for the patent registration fee, KIPO allowed the applicants to make license (registration) fee payments at any place and any time in Korea during the invoice period.
This became possible as KIPO began to forward the statement of payment (giro form) for patent (registration) fee to the applicants when notifying them with the registration set-up decision.


□ The processing of transfer request on existing patents are made more convenient as the applicants are now allowed to follow the necessary procedures without having to go through the address change procedure even when the address of registration obligator and original registrant are different as long as the history of address change can be verified.

□ The need to present the certificate of a seal impression is no longer necessary when the same person wishes to surrender his/her rights after he/she has made request to cancel the utility model plan.


□ With the introduction of Integrated Payment System on registration (local) fee and patent (registration) fee, people are now allowed to make simultaneous payment for registration fee and patent fee when they wish to transfer their existing patent or trademark.
In addition, KIPO has allowed applicants to make the registration payment until the day after the registration day.
KIPO made these decisions after considering the fact that applicants could not make the registration payments on the day of registration if their registrations were received after the usual business hours of banks (Generally after 16:30).



□ Due to tremendous reforms in the registration procedures of patents and trademarks, the processing methods for the payment of patent registration set-up fee and transferring of patent became easier than ever.
Regarding this, KIPO is expecting to see a great improvement in convenience of processing civil affair administrations that are related to management of intellectual properties.
